Press Release: Welcome to the Polycarbonate Grubcan!

At Grubcan we make bear canisters that effectively protect bears and your food while offering an ease of use that has become our hallmark. Our commitment to quality and functionality remains unwavering as we announce a new addition to our product line!

The Polycarbonate Grubcan uses the same combo locking mechanism and convenient shape as our Carbon/Kevlar cans but is made of durable polycarbonate. Carbon/Kevlar Grubcans remain the lightest bear canister on the market; however, the Polycarbonate version isn’t far behind, weighing only 1lb 14 oz. It will be available in the 6.6L size, which holds up to 6 nights of food using the repacking method.

The canister itself will be clear for backpackers who like to be able to see inside, and there will be a variety of colors for the combo rings on the lid. The Polycarbonate Grubcan is IGBC certified, and will provide our tried-and-true security for your food at a lower cost: MSRP will be $107.00.

The Polycarbonate Grubcan will be available for purchase in mid-summer 2025 through our website and select retailers.
