The Wave Grubcan uses the same combo locking mechanism and convenient shape as our Carbon/Kevlar cans but is made of durable polycarbonate. Carbon/Kevlar Grubcans remain the lightest bear canister on the market; however, the Wave Grubcan isn’t far behind, weighing only 1lb 15 oz. It will be available in the 6.6L size, which holds up to 6 nights of food using the repacking method.

The canister itself will be clear for backpackers who like to be able to see inside, and there will be a variety of colors for the combo rings on the lid. The Wave Grubcan is IGBC certified, and will provide our tried-and-true security for your food at a lower cost: MSRP will be $107.00.

The Wave Grubcan will be available for purchase in mid-summer 2025 through our website and select retailers.

Update to our Press Release, 06/11/2025:

The new Wave Grubcans will be CLEAR. The first production runs that we received and are shown here were made with transparent blue polycarbonate, but the product is crystal clear. You can find images on the product page.

Also, we had originally reported that the new Wave Grubcan would weigh 1 lb. 14 oz. Once we received our first shipment, we went through a round of rigorous quality control. While most of the Grubcans are at the 1 lb. 14 oz. mark, some of them begin to approach  1 lb. 15 oz. We’re talking a tenth of an ounce difference in weight. In order to be as transparent (pun intended) as possible in our product information though, we are listing 1 lb. 15 oz.  as their weight. They are still the lightest 6.6L bear canister on the market (besides our Carbon/Kevlar ones)!
